The crowd at the #BBnaija auditions is proof of our flawed value system and our failed government - Nigerians react
On Friday morning, Nigerians woke up to an incredible amount of youths storming the 8 audtion centers for this year's edition of Big Brother Naija.
Alot of Nigerians are blaming the ASUU strike, joblessness and the government for the turnout of youths at the audition centers.
According to a twitter user, 'the crowd at the #BBnaija auditions is proof of our flawed value system and our failed government. I am not against anyone going to audition for it, but when this is what majority of our youth see as a way to escape poverty, then we have a serious problem'.
See photos from the auditions and social media reactions below...
It's that time of the year we see different shabby characters from pre-adult Nigerians showing themselves with love and hate. #BBNaija— Evera??? (@evera109) February 1, 2019
The sad part of this #BBNaija audition is that the sponsors, organizers and all have those they want to use for the show already.— BMAX (@OfficialBmax) February 1, 2019

If all you see from this is the youths being useless, then you've got some serious issues... this nation has failed everyone of those people you see... those people are struggling to try break out of poverty, most are jobless and idle, and would rather hustle their way out rather than try other vices...I drove past Aromire before 5am, and there was already a large crowd just outside the audition centre...Nigeria has failed its youths... Only the rich are getting richer, Its soo sad

Look at all the fools who thumbed down this guys comment about lazy Nigerian DOOMED youth. Nigeria is done, destroyed, and that is it. Can you imagine. They are more interested in acting like fools on TV than to attempt to take over the leaders who are ruling them and binding them to poverty, genocide and lack. This is beyond disgusting. APC and PDP please continue to rule and do what you wish with this fucked up GOD forsaken country called Nigeria. Imagine the comments on here

They should make sure they charge this government, for not creating the 3 million jobs every year Buhari promised in his election campaign. He works with old men and not giving the youths a chance in his government like that old grandpa of 83 yrs Nigerian Ambassador to U.S .

I seriously blame our govt. No employment, ASSU is on strike so everyone is at home. Youths now feel like the only way out is to enter bbn and be recognized or do betting games. People prefer going for bbn auditions than voting at elections because they feel like the elections are already rigged, plus the the amount of violence that goes on at polling booths. It's only God that can save us. We really need a change of mentalility

We can't blame the youths. They called them "leaders of tomorrow". The "tomorrow" came and went but they were not allowed to become leaders. The useless old men who have been there forever still remain there looting the country's money and inflicting poverty on everyone else. In the absence of the courage to stage a revolution and take over power, this is one of the things they are condemned to do to get out of poverty.

I dont agree with the show or what it stands for but honest truth is that people will go for whatever brings fast money and this is one of them. This is not just Nigeria. These type of reality shows started in the western part of the world which is what we are emulating.

Thank you. Everything in Nigeria is government fault. Nobody takes the blame for their own stupidity. People blame the old people for refusing to leave government, if I may ask who keeps voting for the old folks? No be Nigerians? If you want a change, vote them out. It's that simple.

9am to 5pm job is dead in Nigeria. The lifestyle of the yahoo boys, entertainers, coupled with the ineptitude of the government has turned our youths to seek the fastest part to fame and riches. Nobody wants to do the daily grind again. Most will rather be caught stealing ladies undies than get a regular job. it is very disheartening.

I disagree. This has little or nothing to do with government. Who is patronizing the show, is it government? Alot of youths there are not unemployed or poor. They just want the fame. This is a failure in our culture, as a people. We should focuse more on better things like invention

Sometimes I wonder why some of our Nigerian youths lack wisdom, they suppose to know that this BBN process is more of a politics. Buhari is too wicked, to have turned our youths in this manner. They already have the list of the people that will partake on this event, so why all these rubbish. They failed to know that everything is connection, not by merit. I can't call them lazy youths because Buhari didn't provide job opportunities to them. This is pity.

looking at those pictures of mostly well dressed young people, I ask, where is the poverty or are they talking about that of the mind? or is there a different poverty from that which we all see on the streets of Lagos daily?

There's a huge and very monumental problem in this country, and it's so saddening that the main crux of the problem lies with our youth. Every Naija youth wants to be rich and famous. Nobody wants to grind it out no more. The worst part is that they'd do anything to make it. I got a call from a friend of mine who works with Multichoice this morning. The guy told me that even though he's not among the audition panel screening the applicants, many of the girls who turned up for the audition have been practically throwing themselves at him and some of his other male co-workers, simply because they're wearing their MultiChoice ID cards. Anybody who's been identified as a MultiChoice staff is a target for harassment. They're ready to do anything in order to be selected. This is such a shame.
